Ann T. "Miss Ann" Souhrada, age 97, of Menominee, NE passed away peacefully Thursday, May 8, 2014 at the Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 AM, Monday, May 12, 2014 at St. Boniface Catholic Church, Menominee, with Rev. David Fulton and Msgr. Carlton Hermann con-celebrating. Burial will be in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Lesterville, SD at approximately 1:15 PM. Visitations will begin at 6:00 PM, Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory, Yankton, SD, with a Wake service at 7:00 PM. Visitations will resume one hour prior to the service at the church. Ann Souhrada (Miss Ann) was born on March 25, 1917 on a farm near Lesterville to Joseph and Mary (Mudloff) Souhrada. She attended Cedar Grove Country School and St. Wenceslaus Catholic School in Tabor. She attended Mount Marty High School her freshmen year and three years at Lesterville Public High School. She received her teacher's certificate from Notre Dame College in Mitchell in 1935. Ann taught grade school at Cedar Grove and Lesterville. In 1947, she began keeping house for Father Louis Miller. After Lesterville, they were in parishes in Aurora, Colman and Elkton. Following Father Miller's death in 1968, she moved to Menominee, NE where she taught. During this time, she also attended USD and received her Master Degree in Teaching and retired from teaching in 2002. She taught mass servers, wrote petitions, folded bulletins at St. Boniface Church in Menominee, and always had a garden with vegetables and beautiful flowers. She was a member of Foresters and Catholic Workmen. She entered Avera Sister James Care Center on April 17, 2008. She is survived by one sister, Irene Dvoracek of Yankton, SD; four nieces and one nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters: Sister James, Sister Lucille and Sister Amelia, all of Sacred Heart Convent, Yankton, SD, and three brothers: Joseph, Albert and August.
