The family of Mary Albrecht would like to express our graditude to everyone who contributed to making her 86 years so memorable! She was always surrounded by many friends and family during her life and those same people have been so supportive as we celebrated her transition to heaven.

While naming everyone isn't possible, we would like to draw special attention to the medical professionals who were so instrumental in her final 38 days.  The team at Yankton Medical Clinic was outstanding and treated Mary with such care in the infusion center and in her office visits. During her 21 days at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital everyone (front desk staff, nutrician, janitorial, patient care techs, PT, OT, palliative care, hospice, lab techs, nurses, doctors) treated Mary with the utmost respect and diginity. They made her comfortable and she felt their compassion during all steps in the process.

Special thanks to the team at Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home.  They helped make eveything exactly what Mary would have wanted. Thank you to the Rev. Thi Pham and the team at St. Benedict Catholic Church (organist, choir, altar servers, funeral committee) for such a touching servce and lunch. Pied Piper did an amazing job on the floral arrangements. A beautiful memorial to a beautiful woman.

Mary's family feels comfort through all the lovely cards, memorials and prayers.  Mary always took the extra effort to make others feel welcome and special. To continue her legacy, please continue to pay-it-forward with random acts of kindness to brighten someone else's day. If you would like to remember Mary through the "adoption" of one of her plants or collectibles (angels, Dickens Village, Avon, etc.), Please contact Nancy at 605-660-0438 and we would be happy to accomodate.

Many blessings from Mary's family,

Nancy, Brad, Tyler, Drew, and Courtney Wenande

~ From the Family of Dr. Brooks Ranney ~

“The day you were born, you cried, and the world rejoiced. The day you died, the world cried, and you rejoiced.”

The word ‘thank you’ seems inadequate to express our gratitude…

•     To the staff at Autumn Winds and Hospice for the loving care Brooks received these past two years.
•     To Rev. Molly Carlson, Ted Powell-organist, Jennifer Powell and the UCC Choir, Terry Winter, Steve
Thum-eulogist, and Emma Kratz for her WWII medley, Doctors who served as pallbearers, the brass quartet and cellist, who together made          for a beautiful memorial service for an extraordinary man.
•     Special thanks to Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home & Crematory for their professional and gracious service.
•     To all who sent flowers, memorials and other acts of kindness, whether you attended the service or just remembered us in your silence.
•     To the VFW Post Honor Guard and SDARNG Honor Guard who provided the Military rites and Dean Rettedal, trumpet.
•     To the Women’s Fellowship who served the reception.
•     And a special thanks to my family, Marvin & Agnes Thum, Marilyn & Bud Kratz, Donna Mouser, and my nieces and nephews…who have        been such a tremendous support to me during this time.

Brooks radiated a life force that was strong and all encompassing; a life force that will live on in all of us who knew him. He sailed through life with ears and eyes wide open, paying no attention to age. He loved traveling and showing others the world. He always said he practiced medicine in the best of times. Perhaps this quote sums it up best:

“Live life so completely that when Death comes to you like a thief in the night, there will be nothing left to steal.”

Khrista wrote this in a letter to us, which not only expresses the love of daughter for her parents but truly transcends the bonds of family to include Yankton and the surrounding communtiies. We realize there are no words of consolation as we face a life without Khrista. We listen for her voice. We long for her music. We miss her smile. We expect her to pop into the room or call the phone and then we are slammed into the reality of her permanent absence.
We humbly thank you for your generosity to the "In Khrista's Memory" memorial fund. We will embrace her animated and concrete spirit of giving to those who share her passion for music, art and nature by designing opportunities to allow those who have a passion to also have the means. We cannot begin to express how grateful we are for the hundreds of prayers, texts, cards, out pouring of love, hugs and generosity of food, help and quiet servitude of kindness shown to us since we received the tragic news.
And in her spirit, we encourage everyone to do a "Kindness for Khrista." Do something unexpected and thoughtful for someone else. Rescue a dog. Pick up litter. Walk someone home so they do not have to walk home alone. Wear a flower in your hair. Twirl in the sunshine. Thank God for this awesome world He gave us. Our lives are forever changed but we are lifted up in gratitude and prayer by all of you who laid down your cross to help us carry ours. Hug your children like it is going to be the last time...
We simply say 'God Bless and Know "your impression (is) on our spirit forever..."'

Dear Staff of Opsahl Kostel

Thank you so much for the memorial tree you are having planted in my mom's name.  She would have loved it - she had trees planted in memory of my brother and niece when they passed.  Your memorial was so appropriate and appreciated.

Thank you again
