Rebecca Ann (Schow) Clyde was born on December 12, 1952, in McCook, NE, to John W. Schow and Ada M. (Kutz) Schow. She grew up on the family farm north of McCook and later moved into town in 1969. Becky graduated from high school in McCook, where her love for family, faith, and helping others began to blossom.
On April 6, 1974, Becky married Stanley J. Clyde in McCook, NE. Stan was the love of her life, and she often expressed how deeply she loved him. Together, they adopted three children—Mathew, Mark, and Lori. The family shared many wonderful memories during their time together in Hanna, WY; Cambridge, NE; Oklahoma City, OK; Gas City, IN; and Crofton, NE. Becky worked a variety of clerical jobs as the family moved with Stan’s work. She enjoyed being a bank teller and working at a radio station, where she met her good friend Laurie Labarge.
Becky’s world was forever changed when Stan tragically passed away in an automobile accident on April 6, 1991, at just 40 years old. Despite this heartbreak, Becky demonstrated incredible strength, raising their children as a single mother and building a life in Crofton, NE. A year after Stan’s death, Becky was diagnosed with Scleroderma, which dramatically impacted her life, yet she faced each challenge with unwavering resilience and grace.
In 2004, Becky was embraced by the Tammen family, who affectionately considered her "the other mother." She became an integral part of their family, forming a close bond with Tory. Becky and Tory were best friends, sharing countless adventures, heartfelt conversations, and simple joys. They cherished time together, whether getting coffee, watching Hallmark movies, enjoying chips and salsa, fishing, or embarking on hikes and scenic drives. They attended a Brothers Osborne concert, created memories at Churchill Downs (where Becky made her own Derby hat), and spent hours talking about anything and everything. Becky was Tory’s number-one fan and unwavering supporter.
The Tammen family was blessed to travel with Becky to our nation’s capital, the Ark Encounter, Branson, MO at Christmas, a Mississippi River cruise, and the Minnesota Vikings game at the Metrodome. These trips were filled with laughter, adventure, and memories that will be cherished forever.
Becky’s nurturing spirit extended to her mother, Ada, who moved to Crofton in 2003. Becky lovingly cared for her mother in her final years, ensuring she was surrounded by love and comfort until Ada’s passing in 2008 at the age of 95. Her selflessness and dedication were a testament to the deep love she had for her family and friends.
Becky loved yard work and caring for her plants, a reflection of her nurturing spirit. She also found joy in playing online games like Wordscapes and coloring. An avid reader and a woman of deep faith, Becky found strength and community in her Bible studies and her work with St. John’s Lutheran Church, where she served on the Communion Committee. She demonstrated her care for others by tending to the graves of loved ones several times a year, honoring their memories with dignity and love.
In 2018, Becky faced another health battle when she was given just two hours to live due to a complete heart block. Defying the odds, she survived and even graduated from hospice care after six months, thanks to the dedicated support of volunteers from the Crofton community.
Becky’s life was one of selflessness, faith, and resilience. She was a woman of great compassion who never hesitated to care for others, whether adopting stray animals, supporting friends and family, or welcoming others into her heart and home. Becky’s kindness and resilience were a source of inspiration to all who knew her. Her legacy of faith, compassion, and love will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.
Becky is survived by her children, Mathew, Mark, and Lori; her adopted family: Steve, Joan, Tory Tammen, and Scott and Taylor Davidsen; her nephew and close friend Mark Reynolds and his family; and her nephews Mike and Steve Reynolds and their families.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Stan; her parents, Ada and John; and her brother, Wayne.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Pietila and Dr. Sedlacek for their compassionate care, and to the hospice volunteers, Karen, Dorothy, Laverta, Mike C., Mike H., and Jane, for their loving support.
Pallbearers: Mark, Mike, Steve, and Logan Reynolds; Steve Tammen; and Scott Davidsen.
Honorary Pallbearer: The 2018-2019 Hospice Volunteers and Avera Hospice nursing staff.
