Obituary of Philip Edward Hershman

Philip Edward Hershman, age 85 of Yankton, SD passed away Friday, September 13, 2024 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD.  Funeral services will be 10:30 am, Friday, October 4, 2024, at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Yankton with Rev. Dani Jo Bierwagon officiating. Visitation will be from 5:00-7:00 pm, Thursday, October 3, 2024, at the Opsahl-Kostel Funeral Home in Yankton. Philip was born in Mitchell, South Dakota on December 17, 1938, to Willis Hershman and Phyllis Weller Hershman. He resided in Mitchell throughout his childhood, graduating from Mitchell High School in 1958.

Following graduation from Northwest College of Commerce in Huron, Philip worked for PCS Credit Services. He moved to Yankton later in life where he worked for Shur-Lok Packing and later at Sunshine Grocery.

He was an avid bowler, participating in several leagues in both Mitchell and Yankton. He was also an active member of the Elks Lodge and Exchange Clubs in Mitchell and the Sertoma Club in Yankton. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother Paul D. Hershman of Norfolk, Nebraska. He is survived by his niece, Kelly Sanger of Broken Bow, Nebraska and nephew, Brett Hershman of San Diego, California.
