Obituary of Maynard Streyle
STREYLE MAYNARD
Maynard L. Streyle, age 77 of Olivet, SD passed away unexpectedly on Friday, December 8, 2023, at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. Funeral services will be 2:00 PM, Friday, December 15, 2023, at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, SD with Rev. Michael Hecht officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Reformed (Kassel) Cemetery, rural Menno, SD with Military Graveside Rites by the Rames-Bender American Legion Post #152 and the US Navy Honor Guard. Visitations will be 5 to 7 PM, Thursday, December 14, 2023, at the Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, SD with a Scripture service at 7:00 PM. Maynard Louis Streyle was born March 6, 1946, in Freeman, SD to Alvin and Lora (Fuerst) Streyle. Maynard was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Reformed Church in rural Menno. He attended country school until the 8th grade. Maynard was an active member of the US Navy from 1967-1969.
On September 22, 1974, he married Marlene Bitterman. During his life, Maynard farmed while working at the Menno Feedstore. Later he worked at the lumber yard, was a farmhand for several local farmers and eventually retired from the Menno Grain Elevator.
Maynard was an involved member of the American Legion Post #152 where he assisted in lining up the 4th of July Menno Parade for many years. He served as a Scout Master and Den Leader for the Menno Boy Scouts. He enjoyed fishing and woodworking and just recently spent time doing word searches, putting together puzzles, playing Bingo and winning many checkers games.
Survivors include Marlene Streyle of Menno, SD, three children and several grandchildren: daughter Denise (Scott) Mostek (Caitlyn, Carter and Camden) of Wayne, NE, son Jason (Tara) Streyle (Katelynn and Cody) of Alcester, SD, son James (Jalynne) Streyle (Parker and Kaylee) of Scotland, SD, brother Roland (Peggy Thranum) Streyle, sisters Marcella Furney, Kathleen (Rick) Chapin, Betty (Keith) Frey, nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
He was preceded in death by his parents Alvin and Lora Streyle, one brother Marvin, one sister Lois, brother-in-law Loren, his grandparents, aunts, and uncles.
