A Love Note to Elinor
She was always a mom to me.
Welcoming me into their warm home with freshly baked goods, a smile that would light up the darkest night and a word of encouragement.
Christmas time was always kicked off with a visit to the Perry home and a sample of the home made ginger bread house. (the samples had to be carefully selected as the official dismantling and consumption of the house was not to be accomplished until Christmas Eve).
She encouraged Donnie and I to learn to cook. The path chosen was that of homemade Pizza. All the ingredients were there and we were allowed to make a small mess as long as the pizza was shared with her.
During my younger years sandwich’s toasted and delivered into the basement while we watched the Lone Ranger. My first experience of eating Potato Chips with Ketchup hooked me.
One of my earliest memories of her was around the age of 5. Alicia Ferguson and I decided that we would make the journey to the Perry Home to sample some of her home-made cookies. We ventured out along the street blocks and arrived (just the 2 of us) to her surprise. “Where is your Mom ?” she asked,, “Oh don’t worry Mrs. Perry,, she knows” (She didn’t)
We sat down with cookies and milk while she calmly called my mom who arrived shortly. The pleasure of the cookies was quickly erased when I got home and learned that fly swatters were not only used for killing fly’s.
When I was 19 Cy Vojak, Mark Mancina and I drove to Fort Dodge from California to see my parents and to visit the Perry’s. Donnie was so elated he talked Elly into an impromptu dinner for several of us along with a few beers. She welcomed us as warmly as war hero’s.
She joins a group of 4 Mom’s who meant the world to me. My Mother and Elly raising me in the Midwest along with Kay Vojak and Doris Mancina who took the reigns on the West Coast ensuring that a somewhat difficult teenager had the right Mom at the right time when needed. All 4 are now in heaven playing cards and telling their husbands to fend for themselves.
She always stayed in touch with my Mom all the way to her passing at 99. When I would visit there were cards and letters from Elinor along with Phone Call’s and words of encouragement. My Mother loved her dearly.
Elinor win’s the award for the longest surviving Mom.
She was and is such an amazing woman that defined the description unconditional love. Giving Love that has left such a deep impression in my soul.
She is an angel and a saint. I miss you mom !

Please accept my deepest sympathy. My parents, Jim and Dorothy Bowens and your parents Don and Elly Perry were friends for many, many years. I have so many fun memories of those two couples. May her beautiful, beautiful soul rest in peace. She will be sadly missed. Elly had a kind word, and a hug for everyone. I will miss her gentle spirit.

A beautiful obituary for a beautiful and gracious lady. I am glad to have known Elinor for many years as a patient and friend in our dental practice. She was under the care of my father, Paul, and after his retirement I began to see her. She had the prettiest smile, infectious really, I always enjoyed our visits. I was glad to read about her long and happy life. She will be missed by all who knew her. My sympathy and prayers to all. Matthew Maggio
