We are the grandparents of Sam Johnson, Sam was Kipp's former roommate at SDSU. We met Kipp a couple years ago when they were moving into the apartment near Walmart. When Kipp got there he came in with his crutches trying to move his things in, so we helped him bring in his boxes and my husband helped him put his bed together and we all help him settle in.
He was such a nice boy, we remember him fondly. Our hearts and prayers go out to you, Mackenzie and your family in this time of sorrow. When my father passed we received a card that I always hold dear.
When someone you love becomes a memory, that memory becomes a treasure.
Maybe God be with you all.

Dear Shelly & family : So Sorry to hear about Kipp . Such a sudden & unexpected loss is so hard to imagine or explain. While I hadn't met Kipp, Dwight had spoke about him several times with great admiration for his academic & athletic success. All can easily see he was a wonderful young man who set a shining path for others to follow!

Shelly and Family:
We are so sorry to hear about the loss of your son, Kipp. We cannot imagine how difficult it must be to lose such a vibrant young man in the prime of his life. We have heard a lot of very nice things about Kipp and his athletic abilities as well as being a very nice young man. We are just so sorry that we weren't able to make it to you father's funeral and get the opportunity to speak with Kipp as an adult. I only remember him from when he was a young child.
I visited with your mother and sister last spring in Spencer and will probably see them again this fall. I hope that we are able to see you again in the near future.

I always enjoyed Kipp as one of my fifth grade students at Beadle Elementary. Recently, I would see him at the Wellness Center. We talked about many things. I always raced my students in the 100 yard dash each year. I asked Kipp if he remembered when he raced me and how it turned out. He said, "Well, Mr. J, I think I took you down!" We both laughed... Kipp influenced many people of all ages. He will be missed a lot!

Jon and family I am sorry you have to go through this. I had a short conversation with Kipp at the tri on Saturday. He was a great kid-growing into a man. Ryan said he was sorry as well and remembers him from XC at Yankton. At a later time the Yankton Sertoma Club would like to do something. Again sorry for your lose.

I am so sorry to hear this. I just wanted to share that during the race on Saturday Kipp was running towards the finish and as he passed me on the trail he told me to 'keep pushing'. He didn't have to say anything and could have focused on his own race but he took just a second to provide some encouraging words. A true testament to the kind of person he was. Your family will be in our prayers.
