            Rita Zavadil, age 87 of Fordyce, NE passed away unexpectedly at Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. On Saturday, July 7, 2018.

            Rita was born June 1, 1931 to Henry and Theresa (Bruns) Schaefer at the family farm near Menominee.  She grew up and lived in the Menominee area all her life.  She attended eight years of elementary education at Menominee and graduated from Mt. Marty High School in Yankton.  She married Wilfred Zavadil September 2, 1952 at St. Boniface in Menominee with the Rev. Otto Zillig officiating. 

Following her marriage, she helped her husband on the farm while raising her family. Rita enjoyed gardening, raising chickens, crocheting and playing cards. She loved visiting with her grandchildren, family and friends.  She was a member of St. Boniface Ladies Guild and Christian Mothers.  She enjoyed the opportunity to eat out and spend time with friends and family.

Rita is survived by her five children: Terry (Mary Jean) Zavadil of Fordyce, NE, Dennis Zavadil of Bancroft, NE, Steve (Jeani) Zavadil of Fordyce, NE, Patrick (Patricia) Zavadil of Fordyce, NE and Karla (Bill) McDonald of Yankton, SD; fourteen grandchildren; three sisters-in-law:  Fern Schaefer, Evelyn Schaefer and Helen Schaefer, all of Yankton, SD and many nieces and nephews. 

Rita was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Wilfred in 2010; son, Kenneth in 1971; three brothers:  Sylvester, Ralf, and Harold Schaefer and four sisters:  Maxine, Mildred Schroeder, Mary Hoesing and Theresa.
