Verlaine D. Schneider, age 89 of Tyndall, formally of Menno, SD, passed away on Thursday, June 21, 2018 at Avera Sister James Care Center in Yankton. Memorial services will be 10:30 AM, Monday, June 25, 2018 at Grace Lutheran Church, Menno, SD with Rev. Theresa Jacobson officiating. Burial will be in the Menno Cemetery, Menno, SD. Visitations will be one hour prior to the service at the church. The Aisenbrey-Opsahl-Kostel Memorial Chapel, Menno, SD is assisting with the service details. Verlaine, daughter of William and Magdalena (Huber) Ulmer was born on August 21, 1928 near Menno SD and was baptized on October 1, 1928 by Rev. C. Hewer at the Zion Lutheran Church. She loved school and attended the Ulmer School, located not far from her home, through the eighth grade. Her Confirmation into the Lutheran Faith was bestowed by Rev. E.A. Bischoff on May 30, 1943.
On August 27, 1950 Verlaine was united in marriage to Donald L Schneider. They were married 51 years until his death in 2002. They were faithful lifetime members of the Grace Lutheran Church at which Verlaine held office(s) in the W.E.L.C.A. Verlaine enjoyed baking, bowling, gardening, sewing, word search puzzles, books and outdoor activities. While living in Menno she worked at the Menno-Olivet Care Center for 28 years as a Certified Nurses Aide and truly enjoyed taking care of people in need. After Don passed, she moved to Tyndall, SD, met new friends and worked part time at the Dairy Queen and Tyndall Good Samaritan Center.
Verlaine is survived by her six children: Jacqueline Parmenter of Omaha NE, Connie (Todd) Meyer of Springfield SD, Mark Schneider of Tempe AZ, Karla (Don) Mielke of Frederick CO, James (Teri) Schneider of Yankton SD and Jon (Diana) Schneider of Placerville, CA; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren: David (Dana) Mielke and daughter Kaslin, Bret Mielke, Kelli (Tom) Whiteing and sons: Jacob, Matthew & Samuel, Philip Parmenter II, Brooke (Tyler) McPheron and Matthew Schneider; sister, Leona Kost and brother, Art Ulmer.
Verlaine was preceded in death by her husband, Don; her parents; one sister, Linda Streyle; six brothers: Ruben, Eugene, Wilbert, Harold, Harland and Roy and son-in-law, Philip Parmenter.
