Jimmie J. Carda, age 84 of Tabor, SD and Sioux City, IA passed away Tuesday, December 20, 2016 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD. On-line condolences may be sent to: www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. Jimmie was born on June 13, 1932 in Tabor, SD to Joseph F. and Mary E. (Bouska) Carda. He was baptized and a member of St. Wenceslaus Catholic Church, Tabor, SD. He graduated in 1950 from Tabor High School. Jimmie joined the Army on April 9, 1953 and was honorably discharged in March 1955. He served in Panama. He married Fritzie Goeller on May 24, 1956 in Crofton, NE. Fritzie passed away on February 17, 1989. He married Patricia Gengler on December 10, 1994 in Las Vegas, NV. He was an avid hunter, fisherman spending time in White River and Martin, SD, a Boy Scout Leader and was a lifetime member of the American Legion. After the military, Jimmie worked in road construction in the Black Hills and then returned to Tabor working for the Bon Homme County Road Maintenance and then 29 years as a lineman for Bon Homme/Yankton Rural Electric Association where he made numerous friends. After his retirement he enjoyed helping farmers in the Tabor/Springfield areas and spending time with his family and friends. He enjoyed following the PRCA and attended many world finals in Las Vegas, NV. He also enjoyed his visits to many casinos while he and Pat travelled. Jimmie is survived by his wife, Patricia L. Carda of Tabor, SD and Sioux City, IA; sons, Joe (Tammy) Carda and family of Tyndall, SD and Jeff Gengler (Diana) of Vancouver, WA; daughter, Kris (Brian) Collins of Merrill, IA and ex-daughter-in-law Vickie (Gene) Konken of Yankton, SD; five grandchildren: Jamie Carda of Wilmington, NC, Jeremy Carda (special friend, Kelsey) of Red Wing, MN, Jesse (Kasandra) Carda of Saratoga Springs, NY, Ryan Collins of Merrill, IA and Ashley Collins (special friend, Ryan) of Merrill, IA; two great-grandchildren, Jacob and Kaylei and sisters, Leona Pechous of Springfield, SD and Margaret Burfeindt of Avon, SD. Jimmie was preceded in death by his parents, first wife and brothers: Steve, Laddie and Leonard.
