Frances E. Madson, Yankton passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Saturday, April 9, 2016 at Avera Sister James Care Center, Yankton, SD at the age of 95 years, 2 months, and 2 days. Pallbearers will be Chad Madson, Bret Madson, Brad Steenhoven, David Lueckenhoff, Todd Reeves, Jake Reeves, Todd Keating, Dave Keating, Cole Lueckenhoff, Chase Lueckenhoff, Levi Steenhoven, and Todd Koch. Honorary pallbearers will be her 25 great grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. Frances Elaine Madson was born February 7, 1921 to George and Selma (Bolte) Wienert in Flandreau, SD. She graduated from Flandreau High School in 1938. On February 14, 1939, she married Virgil Madson and to this union three children, Judith, Sharon and Clifford were born. They farmed north of Flandreau for 22 years. In 1962, Frances and Virgil moved to Yankton and she worked for the South Dakota Human Services Center for 21 years. After Frances and Virgil retired in 1985, they spent many happy years traveling and camping with friends. They both enjoyed playing cards at the Senior Citizen’s Center which Frances continued to do after Virgil’s death in 1999 until she moved to Autumn Winds West in 2010. In 2015, she entered Majestic Bluffs where she resided until her death. Frances is survived and will be greatly missed by two daughters, Judy (Patrick) Keating of Sioux Falls, SD and Sharon (Arlen) Steenhoven of Yankton, SD; a son, Clifford (Donna) Madson of Yankton, SD; 9 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 5 great great grandchildren; a sister, Dorothy McFarland of Flandreau, SD and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Virgil, her parents, George and Selma Wienert and brother-in-law, Victor McFarland.
