Aunt Darlene was the kindest, sweetest.
I was on a bicycle tour and wondered if i could stay the night. Uncle Victor and Aunt Darlene said, “of course i could.” They made me a beautiful supper, slept in a cozy bed, wonderful breakfast and back to the bicycle tour feeling totally refreshed. The hostesses with the mostest.
Aunt Darlene always sent me a beautiful birthday card. Uncle victor and Aunt Darlene came to visit Donnie when he was so ill with cancer. They gave Don a plaque that says, God is never more than a prayer away, may He guide you safely day by day. It is on display in our living room.
God’s Blessings to the family. She will be missed. Patty Gross Phillips

My Aunt Darlene was a strong, disciplined, yet loving woman who grew up in a Mennonite home, became a teacher, and met my Uncle Victor when he offered a ride to her and her friend who were walking home along a country road from the country schoolhouse she taught in. She was strict, and she managed their home by squeezing every penny. Make no mistake, she was the boss. She baked the most amazing brownies, two pans at a time, and always froze one in case company came to call. Since they lived only 30 miles from us in Iowa, we spent a little more time with this Uncle, Aunt and cousins. While the parents played cards, the kids would play in the basement on a roll-away bed, creating stories and magic acts and cracking up so loudly that we frequently earning a scolding being called down from Aunt Darlene or Uncle Victor. But the folks would come down stairs and be our audience for magic acts and sing-a-longs. My memories are filled with so much laughter in their care. I will miss Aunt Darlene's smile as she would excitedly share a story and then turn to Uncle Victor and say, "Isn't that right, Victor?" Her recent strokes robbed her and us of all of that and more. I pray she is at peace and free of the ravages of stroke. And I pray for my Uncle Victor, and my cousins and their family, because they will miss her terribly.
