Obituary of Marla Jean Wubben

Online condolences may be sent at www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. Marla was born May 18, 1948 in Freeman, SD to Milton and Mavis (Waterman) Schmeichel. She graduated from Yankton High School in 1966 and went to Southern State College in Springfield, SD. Marla married Chuck Wubben in Yankton on July 26, 1968 and to this union, two children were born, daughter, Tami and son, Ted. They had a home in Norfolk, NE and Yankton, SD. Marla and Chuck always worked together and pretty much did everything together. They started many different businesses in many different towns. They currently own the Kitchen Place in Yankton and Yankton Trailers. Marla’s favorite thing to do was clean and decorate kitchen displays and she was an expert at it. She did a lot of them, one of the cabinet businesses had 129 displays in various towns. In one year she cleaned and decorated displays at 14 different home shows and won first place for booths at the Nebraska State Fair and the Quest Center in Omaha, NE. Marla and Chuck had stores in Scottsdale, AZ, many locations, in Iowa, South Dakota and Nebraska. Marla also used to sew at her dad’s business “Yankton Canvas and Cushion Company” which is still located in Jamestown, ND. Marla and Chuck made their own couch and other furniture in the early years. Marla had many hobbies, but her favorite was feeding the ducks and all other animals in the parks or anywhere an animal looked hungry. Marla also enjoyed raising dogs. Marla and Chuck enjoyed cars and were lucky to have many different ones over the years. Marla is survived by her husband, Chuck of Yankton, SD; two children, Tami Wubben of Norfolk, NE and Ted Wubben of Yankton, SD; mother, Mavis Schmeichel of Jamestown, ND; sisters and brothers: Carol Jensen, Steve Schmeichel, Chuck Schmeichel, Deb Wilhelm, Teri Schriock, Jim Schmeichel, Kurt Schmeichel, Jay Schmeichel, Chad Schmeichel and Van Schmeichel, all of North Dakota. Marla was preceded in death by her father, Milton Schmeichel.
