Alice Margerie Evenson, age 91 of Yankton, SD passed away October 9, 2016 at the Avera Sacred Heart Hospital, Yankton, SD. On-line condolences may be sent at: www.opsahl-kostelfuneralhome.com. Pallbearers are Jeff List, Tim Pederson (deceased), Chuck Pederson, Jody Rokusek, Kevin (deceased), Troy Rokusek, Don Toyne Jr., Jacob Bierle, Carl Evenson and Jonathan Palsma. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great-great grandchildren. Alice Evenson was born on July 28, 1925 in rural Menno, SD in Yankton County to Ed & Marie (Gran) Munkvold. She was baptized & confirmed at Bethlehem Lutheran Church by Rev. Leverson. Alice attended school at Anderson School, District 52. She married Carl Evenson on September 5, 1943 at Parsonage Church, rural Irene, SD. Alice worked for Sacred Heart Hospital, Dale Electronics & South Dakota Human Services for 17 years. She was a member of Our Redeemers Lutheran Church and the American Legion Aux. Post 219 of Lesterville, SD, where she resided for 40 years. After her husband passed away in 1983, In 1992 Alice moved to Sunrise Apartments in Yankton, SD where she lived for 20 years. Her health then took her to Autumn Winds, Yankton, SD. Grateful for having shared her life are four daughters and two sons: (Carol, deceased) Mrs. Budd Pederson of Scotland, SD, (Janice) Mrs. Arnold Rokusek of Vermillion, SD, (Armella) Mrs. Donald Toyne of Marion, IA, (Charlotte) Mrs. Daryl Bierle of Lesterville, SD, Orlyn Evenson (Bev) RR of Scotland, SD, and John Evenson (Karen) of Springfield, SD; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren and 7 great-great-grandchildren. Alice had six brothers: (Jerome and his wife, Viola, both deceased), Roy, Edward and his wife, Helen, (Albert, deceased) and his wife, Peggy, (Roland, deceased) and his wife, Donna, Oliver and his wife, Jeanette and six sisters: (Edith and her husband, Floyd Weisz, both deceased), Audrey, Mrs. John Holupka and husband is deceased, Iona, Mrs. Elmer Fisher, Joyce, Mrs. Ken Klouchek, (Evelyn and her husband, Norm Johnson, both deceased), (Connie, deceased) Mrs. John Knodel. Alice had many nieces, nephews and friends. Alice was preceded in death by her parents, Ed & Marie Munkvold, husband, Carl, daughter, Carol Pederson, 3 brothers, 3 sisters, 2 brothers-in-law and two grandsons, Tim Pederson and Kevin Rokusek.
