HOESING (JENSEN) ALICE LORRAINE Alice Lorraine (Jensen) Hoesing was born January 27, 1927 and went home to God September 30, 2016. She was born on a farm near Meckling, SD to Eiler and Margaret Jensen, the eldest of 9 children. Alice graduated from Meckling High School in 1945 and then entered Sacred Heart School of Nursing. Alice met and married the love of her life, Henry Hoesing, May 3, 1948, and became proud parents of 6 children. They recently celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary. Alice was Head Nurse of Pediatrics at Sacred Heart Hospital for 30 years caring deeply for the lives of her patients and their families. Nothing made Alice and her family more proud than people stopping her and thanking her for the care she gave to their family and thoughtful instruction she gave to future nurses and doctors who now continue her legacy. Henry and Alice, like many others, were instrumental in the formation of St. Benedict’s Catholic Church and remained very active in church activities. She was an original member of the “Muffin Ladies” Coffee Club. Alice enjoyed time spent with family, weekly card games with her card group, prime rib Thursday at Leo’s in Vermillion with her Jensen family, daily breakfast at Yesterday’s Café and volunteering for the Alumni Association of the Sacred Heart School of Nursing. Alice and Henry enjoyed traveling in their motor home and watching the migration of eagles at Gavins Point Dam. Alice enjoyed making yearly Christmas ornaments for family and friends, doing the daily crossword puzzles, nurturing her African violets, and making jellies and jams and crafts of all sorts. The family is grateful for the care and support given by the Majestic Bluffs Hospice House. The caregivers that comforted Alice and her family were a wonderful gift. Alice is survived by her husband, Henry; children: Mary (Howard) Knodel, Michael (Linda) Hoesing, daughter-in-law Lynn Hoesing, Karla (Darrell) Sawyer, Jean Hoesing (favorite) , Anne (Don) Schultz; brothers: Ellis (Mary Ellen) Jensen, Nels (Mary) Jensen, Gary (Cynthia) Jensen, Robert (Sharron) Jensen and Marvin (Connie) Jensen; 10 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren, one great -great grandson; sister-in-law Emma Hoesing; and adopted family of Jim and Mary Ann Plavec.
